Crocheting = Therapeutic
November 12, 2007
I crocheted my boyfriend a hat today. In doing so, I decided that crocheting is seriously relaxing. I feel kind of like an 80-year-old woman when I sit down with my little crochet hook and a ball of yarn, but it helps me block everything out and calms me down. I just sat there in my living room for a few hours today zoning out as I listened to Modest Mouse and crocheted my little heart out. It was nice.
I also noticed that I go through these intense phases where I get in to painting or photography or baking or whatever and then out of nowhere I just set it aside. I have a half-finished painting sitting on the floor in my apartment that could probably be finished in a matter of hours, but I just don’t feel like working on it anymore. I sat there staring at the painting as I crocheted the hat wondering why I was starting a new project instead of finishing an old one. I came to the conclusion that I will get to it one of these days, but I am waiting until the mood strikes.

A lot of my friends crochet. However, the most common thing I hear is that they never finish a scarf. They work on one scarf for a long time and then start on a new one because they don’t like how the old one is turning out. I guess you’re right. It really depends on your mood. When I first start a project I’m very excited about it, then give me a little time and I’m ready to move on. Anyways, I hope your boyfriend liked the hat.
